| History
In February of 1995 the Washington Organic Recycling Council embarked on a new program to promote
compo st facility operator technical knowledge and sound operating techniques. The program, Operator's Roundtable, was a series of trainings teaching from the US Composting Council's Compost Facility Operating Guide. This popular program was well attended, and a few years later, evolved into the weeklong Compost Facility Operator Training and Examination presented 1-2 times per year.
The current curriculum consists of classroom training, hands on interactive sessions, field trips, and a written examination. Participants focus on the seven basic steps of composting as presented in the Composting Council's Compost Facility Operating Guide.
Topics covered include Composting Infrastructure and Industry Problems, Feedstocks, Feedstock Recovery and Preparation, Composting, Odor Management, Sampling and Testing, Compost Curing, Screening and Refining, Storing and Packaging and other facility management topics.
